Statement of the Editorial Board of “Linguistische Treffen in Wrocław”
on Research Involving Human Participants
The Editorial Board of “Linguistische Treffen in Wrocław” requires that all submitted and published articles presenting results of research involving human participants be conducted in accordance with the principles of research integrity, applicable legal regulations, and internationally recognized ethical standards.
In particular, research must comply – where applicable to humanities and linguistic studies – with the ethical principles set forth in the Declaration of Helsinki of the World Medical Association.
1. Scope
This policy applies to contributions based on:
- sociolinguistic and psycholinguistic research;
- interviews, surveys, and experimental studies;
- audio and video recordings involving human participants;
- fieldwork conducted in specific language communities;
- analyses of materials containing personal data.
2. Approval by an Ethics Committee
Where required by the nature of the research (e.g., experimental studies, research involving minors, processing of sensitive data), authors must obtain approval from the appropriate research ethics committee of their affiliated institution or another competent body.
Such approval must be documented by submitting a relevant author’s statement together with the manuscript.
Both the statement and the article must indicate:
- the name of the ethics committee,
- the decision/reference number,
- the date of approval.
3. Informed Consent
In research involving human participants, authors are required to obtain voluntary informed consent from all participants. The consent must include information about the purpose of the study, the intended use of the data, and the participant’s right to withdraw consent.
Consent should be given in writing unless waived by the relevant ethics committee or not required under national law.
For minors or individuals lacking full legal capacity, consent from a legal guardian is required.
4. Protection of Personal Data
The processing of personal data must comply with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the Polish Act of 10 May 2018 on the Protection of Personal Data.
Authors are required to:
- anonymize participant data unless explicit consent for disclosure has been obtained,
- ensure adequate security of research materials,
- limit the publication of personal data to the minimum necessary for scholarly purposes.
5. Research in Language Communities
When conducting research in minority, regional, or ethnic language communities, authors must demonstrate that the research was carried out with due respect for cultural norms and in a manner of responsible cooperation with the community concerned.
6. Research Integrity and Author Responsibility
The Editorial Board adheres to the principles of good publication practice and the guidelines of the Polish Ministry of Education and Science regarding research integrity. The authors bear full responsibility for the compliance of the research with applicable regulations.
Submission of an article presenting research involving human participants requires the author to submit a statement confirming that the research was conducted in accordance with ethical standards, including – where applicable – the principles of the Declaration of Helsinki.
Manuscripts that do not meet these requirements will not be considered for peer review.
